Arsene Wenger Confirms He Wants To Extend Serge Gnabry’s Arsenal Contract
Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is ready to offer Serge Gnabry a new contract following his return to form with Germany at the Rio Olympics.
Gnabry has
been the star of the German men’s side which has
reached Saturday’s final against hosts Brazil, scoring six goals in five
matches.
The
21-year-old broke into the Arsenal first team three years ago and made
an instant impact, scoring on only his second Premier League appearance
against Swansea, before numerous injuries stunted his progress.
After
recovering from knee ligament damage Gnabry spent last season on loan
at West Brom where he failed to make an impression but Wenger insists he
sees the forward’s long-term future in north London.
‘I want to keep Serge Gnabry and extend his contract,’ Wenger said at his press conference on Thursday.
‘I
think we stood by him. He went to West Brom, didn’t play, we had to
rebuild his confidence. I allowed him to go to the Olympics to help
Germany.
‘I think he’s here now for a long time.’
