N-K’s Top 5: Common makeup mishaps
Ladies… I know we love our makeup. Who wouldn’t love to switch up looks based on preference, occasion and trends?
Applying
makeup is like a game of trial and error in an art room. There are so
many different techniques and styles to makeup application.
You have to keep on practicing till you properly adapt the skills and knowledge of the various methods.
Makeup
is meant to accentuate your features, not overshadow them. Everyone
applies makeup differently (even though we all use the same techniques).
That doesn’t mean you should get carried away and paint on your face.
Year after year, we see photos on social media and come face-to-face with people who struggle with the same makeup mishaps.
Hopefully, we can make a change this 2016 abeg! Keep on reading to find N-K’s Top 5 Common Makeup Mishaps.
Wrong foundation shade
When
picking a foundation, you need to take time to explore and test
different foundation shades. You need to pick something that is closest
to your skin tone. It can be quite hard to find your exact shade because
makeup companies don’t carry all foundation shades.
If
you can’t pick one, it is also pretty common to mix two different
shades together to achieve the perfect color. You don’t want to settle
for a color that makes you look ashy or much darker.
Powder overload
The season of pancake face is over my people!
You should use a setting powder that is two to three shades lighter
than your skin tone to highlight certain areas of your face, NOT all
over! You should use an overall setting powder that’s closest to your
skin tone to lock in moisture and blend your makeup.
Harsh liners
Liners
come in various colors for different makeup looks based on various
occasions. Be careful with how intensely you use eyeliners because it
can be overpowering and make you look grungy if not applied properly.
Stick
with brow liners that match your eyebrow color. You don’t want your
eyebrow color to be too dark because it will weigh your face down and
make you stand out for the wrong reasons. Trust me…it’s not a good look.
Last
but not least, the ultimate lip liner! Lip liners are meant frame your
lips and make them look fuller. It also prolongs the wear of your lip
color. Ladies, please STOP over lining your lips with dark red or black
colors without blending. We dey beg una.
Concealer halo
Concealer
is used to highlight facial features by making them look brighter. You
should use a concealer that is two shades lighter than your foundation.
I’ve witnessed cases of several ladies who use concealer shades that are 4 to 5 times lighter than their foundation. This is a big NO NO!
Unblended eyeshadow
Everyone
can use eyeshadow, but only some can understand the true meaning of
blending. You can be as adventurous as you want with eyeshadow colors
but you need to BLEND! Blending is essential my sisters.
When
blending your eyeshadow, you need to use a color close to your skin
tone in your crease to make the eyeshadow application look seamless. You
don’t need to mix too many colors for one look. Instead, I encourage
you to do your best to keep it simple
